none of the songs I have tried to play thus far have required me to know what a trill is

also, I'm pretty new at guitar, just got one a few months ago and trying to teach myself with tabs/videos.. so yeah, sorry if I offended you with my lack of knowledge

A trill is the fanciful hammer-on of a note. Gives it that distinctly fruity classical sound.
The tablature I linked does not include the trill, I don't play it with the trill either.

I would say to start off with some easy songs like romanza, or dust in the wind, maybe nothing else matters. Thats what usually everyone starts with.

E/ nvm ur learning nothing else matters already, but u can play classical gas O.O

he doesnt know how to use a pick so its all finger picked.

Find some Flamenco music. Get that down, and you can travel back to anything else Flamenco is xtreme.

There's also a Beatles book for finger picking that my guitar teacher has. I don't know the title though. The songs are sort of bare bones though, so you might want to improvise and add your own fills.
