Alright I have been getting into playing acoustic a lot more than usual lately, for the last month I have been going on eebay, going through guitar reviews and have been trying to find something that fits both my aesthetic and sound tastes. I wanted something that was vintage, all wood ( none of that hp laminate bullshit), with nice inlays, action, and sound. I sold my Paul Reed Smith yesterday, so tomorrow I am going to go pick up this beautifuly handcrafted 1976 Alvarez Yairi DY85. Its gonna be kickass.

Alright I got it today, and it is absolutely an awesome guitar. I will post some pictures in the Show Your Gear thread once I take some tomorrow, not only does it all kinds of beautiful abalone and mother of pearl inlays and binding, it sounds amazing.

the finish looks darker in person, and the picture hides some of the flaws, but its still a great acoustic for its age, I love it, much better than a lot of the newer ones, has a very even mellow tone. More like a martin tone than say a taylor.

Definitely =) Aged wood acoustics always sound better with time. The one I play was bought by my mother about 20 years ago (used) and she played it a lot before she passed it on to me >.< It's still in great condition, with the exception of some aesthetics flaws.

The DY-85 is actually a copy of the Martin D-45 and its a extremely accurate replica, down to the abalone and mother of pearl inlay and binding, true toirtoise shell pickguard, (the martin picture is the one with the Koa back and sides, but the standard Martin D-45 has the rosewood back and sides, which is exactly what the Alvarez DY-85 has.... google it) als has the same solid top, same bracing and construction techniques. Even the alvarez logo was placed in the same color and manner as the D45, I think you are greatly underestimating the quality of my alvarez....

Martin D-45

my Alvarez DY-85, as you can see they are almost identical, and mine is not a cheap knock off, Yairi was an extremely respected luthier, plus alvarez isnt a shit brand themselves... mine even has the ink signature of yairi in the body marking it as one of the ones he personally built himself. That mixed with the wonderful aging of the guitar, for an extremely great tone and look.
