Take a few lessons to get started with proper technique and practice with a metronome.

dubtape :)

It's important you play tight so take it step-by-step. Start out with practicing a simple beat and when you are able to hold the beat for 3-5 min then try to put a new kick or something in :) best way of learning drums

I can keep rhythm and make beats quite well I play a bit on my friends one. But def will continue doing step by step. Tape eh? I def will give this a try.

Thanks for the positive feedback both :)

the best way to get better is to have tracks with the drums taken out that you can improvise too

it really helps having songs with odd time signatures or ascending/descending tempos so you can teach yourself to adapt and play accordingly

but yeah, work on keeping a simple beat in a song for 3-5 minutes, then throw in more complex stuff.

In my honest opinion, start by trying to play along with harder music.
For me, I started by playing along with Mathcore and Technical Metal.
Since I was starting out on harder stuff, I've progressed a lot faster than most of the drummers I know.
Also, build up a good warm-up technique consisting of rolls, paradiddles, and other techniques.

Keep in mind, this is just what I do.
Everyone is going to learn best different, so do what works best for you.
