/facepalm @ topic, Electric Guitar/BASS - sorry :P

Well here's my dilemma, I tried to pick up acoustic guitar a few years back (3-4 years ago) and I couldn't get the theory down... But I took music at school and understand it now.

I'm considering taking lessons again, but I have fallen in love with Kiss, mainly the bass lines gene simmons does, sounds more like something I want to do rather then guitar solos, etc. I don't know how to explain it, I prefer to be the backbone then the flashy toy?

Anyway, I have somewhat short fingers, not very flexible either (partly the reason i stopped doing the guitar was because I had a VERY hard time stretching across the first 5 frets) - but i've grown, i was 14 at the time, 18 now lol

Anyway so my questions are:

(I googled this and I realize its very controversial, but...)

Guitar or Bass? I mean I really love doing single string melodies/jams rather then entire strummings, and I'm guessing having 4 strings instead of 4 makes it a bit easier to memorize the chords? (not saying its easier to play) * My MAIN problem with the guitar was blocking 2-3 strings with one finger while using the other 3 to get a higher chord

Based on my fingers and my flexeability, which instrument should I look into starting up.

I also realize there are a lot more guitarists out there, and I don't plan on becoming a guru or anything, but if by the odd chance that I do really like it, are bassists in need?

Well, if you start on the bass. The guitar will be much easier.
Bass is a harder instrument to learn so...
It depends on what suits you the most, its honestly your choice.
If you want to learn both, start with bass.
But if you like guitar more, i suggest u start off there..

don't think bass is easy, it hurt fingers.

anyway lol, it takes years to learn some basics, don't think about getting in a band before at least 2 years of playing...

learn guitar

ALL my friends that play guitar (to be fair, they all will probably go far with it) can play bass amazingly well

one of them was going to teach me even^^ (i play drums)

imo, only learn bass as a second instrument rather than your main

not saying bass isnt hard btw to all u bassists :D

because imo, bass is fairly easy to get "OK" at but one of the hardest instruments to become really good at

play guitar then go to bass...
i have never played a bass but the first 4 strings on a guitar are the 4 strings of the bass.
