I can't figure out what he's doing. Does he rest his palm on the strings as well as his thumb? Or does he pick up his palm and just have his thumb rested on the strings? I'm trying to get used to this picking style, but my palm keeps getting in the way. I assume that he is resting his palm on the strings, and having it get in the way will go away over time. But I want to see if I'm wrong before I have to completely re-vamp my picking hand again...

Well yeah, obviously he has his palm & base of thumb on EAD when he plays on GBE, though sometimes we can see the pinky taking support on his guitar's body.
Resting a part of your hand while you're playing is often criticized but it helps a lot to do such wrist moves sweepings.
