I knew it needed to be retubed and rebiased, but I waited a little too long and one of the power tubes died and I am now forced to bring it in. I got quoted about $160 to retube the amp (2 power tubes, 3 preamp tubes), and adjust the bias, clean the tube sockets, etc. This includes all the tubes and labor. Do you think that's a pretty fair quote? The tubes alone run about $80ish.

what tubes?

160 is not bad at all, i payed about 400 (but for a whole restoration project)

You could learn to bias yourself though and save yourself the trouble for next time

Yeah, that's what I am planning on doing, but i'm going to be out of the country and playing in maybe 5-6 states in august, so this time around I wanted to make sure everything was done right and I wanted about a month to break everything in and make sure it is reliable. You don't think 160 is bad for a rebias and retube for an amp with only 5 tubes? I've never had one break down on me, or kept a tube amp long enough to have to ever switch them out, so it's kind of new to me.

Yeah I do. We'll be in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan, Kentucky, Tennessee - and during the days off we'll just play at random churches or youth groups that will let us play. I'll pm you, I have one of our whole live concerts in mp3. It's completely raw.

$60 for a matched pair of whatever power tubes you use
$54 - 3x $18 for 12ax7's
~$20 for a volt meter and bias probe

You could save yourself some time and money by doing it yourself. It could take the repair station a couple weeks to get around to doing the 10 minutes of work you're paying for.

I once paid for a retube and bias, and it literally took months. After that, I did some research, and it's extraordinarily easy to do yourself.

Yeah, that's honestly what I will do next time, but I just wanted to make sure I wasn't overpaying for labor.
