ok so i have this alveraz accoustic guitar but i never play it because the action on it is really high, so i was thinking if i filed down the nut on each side just alittle bit the strings would sit abit closer to the neck and make it easier to play, is this safe to do without ruining the guitar?

also it has a huge scratch that i accidently made, any one know of ways to fix that as well?

Don't file it yourself, you will screw it up. Have a technician do a neck adjustment on it; the action is probably high because you have a bow in the neck.

Before you file it, compare prices - would it be cheaper to get it filed professionally or just buy a new guitar? Because if you screw up you'll probably end up doing the latter whether you'd like to or not.

use a straight edge and see how flat the neck is (down the frets). keep in mind it needs a little "scoop" in it. filing the nut and saddle down cannot hurt anything, tho you may need to buy a new nut and saddle after youve filed them too far. if you use a good ruler that goes down to 1/64th inch you can see how far youve filed away, use the straightedge to keep it flat and take your time. gl.

edit: ofc you could just adjust the truss rod with an allen wrench -much easier but is not how a professional would do it. do it your way you can pm me if you get into trouble im apprenticing in this stuff and can always ask the boss.
