I've been thinking about getting a birch kit for a long time. I love the way the toms sound so clean and crisp, and how the kick has so much low end attack. Thing is, the snare is usually bad because it sounds ringy when tuned high (I tune high). I'll solve that problem with a Tama Spartan Warlord, once I can afford it.

Here's my drum set up now:

I'm thinking about getting a Mapex M-Birch 6 piece. The price is right, and I really like how they are stained with lacquer and not wrapped with a finish-ply. Any thoughts or suggestions on this?

Hey hey hey!

Where's the fellow drummer input?!

I want some advice about this. Everyone tells me maple>birch but I like the way birch sounds better. So unless I hear some objective thoughts on why maple>birch, I'll choose birch. I've heard maple sounds nicer in the studio though.

Yeah, I rock my little splash too hard sometimes. Got the rack for 240$ on eebay, lists for like 480 or something. :D

The kit is fine, and does it's job. I'm looking for an upgrade from poplar to either maple or birch.
