basically title. Everytime I go to do a drum roll, I end up with something that sounds the same. Sometimes its simple, snare tom crash....wait, no thats ALL the time. I'm trying to figure out some combination's that would sound good, but aren't the same damn thing.

Anyone know of any good youtube vids? Or just word of mouth advice?

And my kit is composed of:

1 Snare, 2 toms, a floor tom, 1 ride 1 crash 1 hihat 1 bass drum

However its an electric kit, so I can assign other things to certain pads/cymbals. For instance I have a higher pitched snare and 2 lower pitched crashes with no ride.

practice your rudiments tbh, then move them round the kit, or experiment over music that is easy to play along to for you and at a comfortable tempo

For beginner fills I would suggest just doing straight 8th notes, maybe 4 on the snare and the next 4 on a tom. After that you could just improvise on that a little bit, leave out a note or add an extra note. Or throw in a flam or buzz or something like that.
Basically the best way is to just practice and listen to yourself. You'll know when you're really groovin' biggrin.gif

ah ok tongue.gif
ye practice ure rudiments as akmal said

such as:
singles (R,L,R,L,R,L,R,L)
doubles (R,R,L,L,R,R,L,L)
paradiddles (R,L,R,R,L,R,L,L)

and i was watching a thing on youtube for fills and i was just being really basic
basically, play singles but remove sum of the beats from them

e.g.
1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8
becomes
1,x,3,4,x,6,x,8
x = nothing

also try sum linear stuff (only 1 drum at a time)

e.g.
R,L,F
R,F,L
F,R,L

F-Foot
R-Right Hand
L-Left Hand

practice on the snare at 1st, then gradually as u build up confidence move around the kit
then practice going slowing down/speeding up mid fill - but remember DONT LOSE TIME tongue.gif

hope this helped smile.gif

thanks guys

also curious, for you drummers...is there any particular exercises you guys use to strengthen yourselves? Like arms/legs/etc?

I've got a gym in my subdivision I use and was wondering if there's anything I can do to improve myself more.

well i play tennis, but thats not really the same,
in my opinion, just practicing the rudiments is the best way, eventually you'll be able to go really fast and place them wherever u want smile.gif

also, drumming is really about strength, but i guess having a good stamina is a good idea
as im playing a 22 song show 6 times next week and 3 full days of rehearsal before smile.gif, im gonna be knackered tongue.gif
