for anyone who's in a band, who writes their own material or just do covers, what are you usually tuned to? and what type of music do you play.

on guitar, we're usually tuned to either:
normal c
drop c
drop a
or drop a# (only for in flames and jfac)

all metal, and sometimes like a moderate crunch type of melody thing backing an acoustic layer.

Standard, One-Half step down, or SOMETIMES drop d.

anything lower than drop d is just scrub
It means the only way to try to make your music heavy is to tune your guitars way too low lol, such as MOST metal bands, which play in Drop C, and slipknot who plays in drop A/A#.
No i'm not "dissing" metal, I listen to it also, but it's almost like cheating because the riffs arn't catchy enough

I don't think you're listening to the right bands, there will always be posers but there are plenty of bands that are the real deal smile.gif

you mean high? Thicker strings warrant higher action otherwise you will get shit intonation and your strings will be too loose. Besides Drop F? Not even Sunn O))) plays in Drop F.

I play in standard for my own music and then i like have an extra guitar for covers, standard C, Eb, D. I hate drop tunings.

no you don't understand, the terrible intonation is what makes the sound so incredible.
