Well, I have my accoustic which I'd like to learn to play. My dad got it from gibson because he works there. Anyway...where do I start? Should I try to take lessons, learn on my own? Read books or what? I get frustrated alot but I really wanna learn and push myself to do so. I just don't know where to start.

Any help on where you all started would be great.

teach yourself. Use the internet as a resource. Start with basic chords.

Well...

If I were to get a teacher, how much normally should I go? The only place around here that gives lessons is $60 a month for one half-hour lesson a week.

That seems like alot of money for about 2 hours a month....$30 an hour.

Oh ya... I can't look at videos online, I live out in the middle of the woods now, can't get dsl here anymore. So I roll on horrid dial-up that is worse than normal dial up. Youtube video's won't load for me. smile.gif

Well, It depends I guess. If you want to learn just to be a hobbyist and play songs that other bands wrote, then get lessons. If you ever want to write your own material, learn on your own. Fumbling through the mistakes by yourself makes for a stronger player. Many of the guitar legends learned all by themselves wink.gif

I teach guitar in a high school and currently teaching in my local university privately as well. I've an edited set of lessons I can send for free, pm me if interested. Look for a local, ACCREDITED guitar instructor, someone with a degree. learn ONLY technique; the rest you can learn yourself. I'm still trying to make a method to successfully teach technique online. classical technique or strict flamenco technique ONLY. no crap side play. scrubs who play with their guitar sideways -> ( o)==D shouldn't even be trying to help you out.
Unless you wanna be like most of these jsp scrubs, learn proper techinque ^^ you'll be > them within a year, despite their 2+ years of 'trying' to play guitar.

Your hostility is quite amusing, especially over something you know nothing about. Grats on being a douche thumbsup.gif

rofl something i know nothing about? what kind of idiot calls a "legend" someone who learned by himself and has been playing for the rock age and on? give me one example of someone who can beat an instructed individual such as Julian Bream, Paco de Lucia, or Pepe Romero? No american scrub can.
