I'm buying a new guitar, and I'll be switching out the bridge humbucker immediately.

Should I use the EMG-HZ H4 or the EMG 81?

I play mainly Death/Thrash metal btw.

Those are my main 2 choices, if you have something you feel will work better, please say it smile.gif

Getting a Randy Rhoads model. All the HZ is, is the passive version of the 81. Looking for the benefits of either one as a lead guitarist. 81's are my first choice, but I want to know how similar HZ4's are since I've yet to use them.

the 81 and the HZ4 are both garbage. Go with seymour duncan instead. Also, you shouldn't have an active pickup in the bridge and a passive pup in the neck. Your wiring would be all fucked up.

Never said they would both be in. Its one or the other in the bridge. I've used Seymour Duncan JB's multiple times, doesn't have the bite needed.

I'm saying that if you're only switching the bridge pickup, and the guitar comes stock with passive pups, you can't put an active pup in the bridge. You need either a set of active pickups or a set of passive pickups.

What kind of amp are you playing through?

GG double post ^^ It comes with cheap active pickups. I'm currently using a Fender Frontman as a temp :/
