So yep, I'm thinking about switching my EMG81/85 on my ESP M-II (We all know how they sound on the clean channel sad.gif)

I've been thinking about maybe SDs, maybe Dimarzios, although I'm not more advanced into my research for now.

Why would I want to switch my EMGs? Because they don't sound really good when I play clean and because I'm looking for something more versatile.

What kind of music do I play? From straight power metal to slow (rock) ballads.

I always stay in standard tuning, I don't play any br00talz stuff, so I don't see why I wouldn't change to more versatile pickups than straight drop D brutal metal pickups tongue.gif (even if they do sound kickass with heavy disto).

Post your thoughts, some advices, links, prices, models.

Please keep this serious.

SD Jazz (neck) JB (Bridge) or enstead of JB in the bridge you could go with a Duncan Distortion.

Dimarzio EVO (Neck) Super Distortion (Bridge)

Not true, they are not garbage.
I was thinking about maybe adding a battery to do 18v mod. It sounds so much better and only costs like $5, comparing to new pickups at about $200.

Anyways, I still have plenty of time to check, ask and research.
And btw, my bad, I'm using 81/81

Then there's no point in taking your opinion into consideration. Every pickups have they pros and cons, but it seems you're just a fag hater.

An other option I took in mind would be switching the 81 in my bridge for a 85 and then do the 18v mod.

EDIT: I actually laugh when I read that you think they have no tone. They have incredible output and have a kickass metal tone.

I have some mustaines on my esp amott and it sounds good clean & heavy.

my other guitars just have stock boring shitty pickups, but i only use them to play live or for fun, whereas my esp is for recording.

I don't personally like EMG's, but it seems like it's the cool thing to hate now. I always recommend a SD JB/Jazz combo, and it seems like a few other people here agree with me. These pickups are amazing.
