So friends. i had my first duncan pickup experience on a jackson guitar w/ a tube amp and i absolutaly fell in love. i never knew they had such a beefy tone to them. unfortunately there wasnt a guitar equipped w/ emg's around so i am still in a debate to which pickup to purchase. bring the ratings! wub.gif

I work at guitar center. People come in asking for EMG's all the time. I show them our stock of duncans, and typically recommend a JB/Jazz for HH guitars. After making the comparison, just about everyone goes with the duncans.

My vote goes for seymour duncan 100%

For me, it's EMGs. But, thats because i've only ever messed about with EMG's. Havn't had a chance for Duncans, but i'm not ripping on them

they're definately worth checking out
i played on the MG100 marshal series with the flange kicked up and the duncan's screaming. i don't think i've ever produced such a close hardrock-metal rock sound on any other package. As i said i'd like some opinions on what they sound like side-by-side. i am still a huge fan of the emg's not only or the sound but they look bad as hell as well wub.gif

p.s. guys i've done some research and found a pretty good test comparing the two and the guy is pretty tight at guitar.

mgs have crushing overdrive afterall.......lol

sorry but i doubt the pickups affected the tone at all coming out of an mg

also, flange is not really that ever present in hard rock...specially not "kicked up"

lol i didnt turn it all the way, just up just enough to give it a distinct sound.
i love the sound of emg's but the jackson with the duncans rly made me think about my next guitar purchase

also, i am curious as to what wood the guitar should be made of.
the fx-400 is made of spalted maple. i havent had the opportunity to test the feel of it quite yet but am very interested in some convo about different woods

I have to go with EMGs since I never played with SD, but I've heard they were good.

If you're looking for a really good metal sound and you know you won't play clean guitar, go with EMGs.

i'd go with duncan blackouts if you're that deadset on actives. emg's are overrated in my book, mainly because that's all anyone hears about/knows. duncans> imo
