and I really like it. But I have no clue what kind of bass it is (the model and whatnot). Can anyone tell me? What's weird about it is that the neck is heavier then the body.

It's clearly a gibson SG. I have no idea as the the exact model or year, but the pups and knobs look like a custom job to me. I don't know if gibson uses rails.

get serial # from back of headstock and look online or in a book. you can get tons of info on gibson guitars, not sure about basses.

How's it sound? I love gibson shapes, but in researching I seem to find mostly negative reviews for their basses, which is frustrating since it's got me gasing.

Well to me it sounds pretty good, but the only other bass I've ever played was a squier. I'm kinda a noob at this stuff.
