well, i've been playing guitar for 5 or so years, but i've really just made my own music and stayed away from tabs, because i have a friend who just sits there and plays horrible renditions of covers and i can't bring myself to that. anyway, i've occasionally looked up tabs if i really wanted to find a part of a song that i liked, and i always see powertabs and i hear people talk about it, but i STILL don't know what it is rofl...anyone care to explain?

powertab is a program that imports tablature and has the ability to export it as a midi file. In other words, you can write out tabs in Powertab and then hit the 'play' button to hear the song you're writing.

not only does powertab give you the note to be played, but it supports note durations and rests and such, as well as plenty of different instruments and timbres. I've been using power tabs for years, so if you have a song that you want tabbed out in powertab, just let me know and I might try it.

so i can just tab out songs i've written and then it will play it back to me, and i can tweek and and whatnot?

There's a much better similar program called Guitar Pro, but you have to buy that one

power tabs can be read by GUitar Pro

Uh you have to buy it dude, what you got is a crack and is illegal. I myself got a crack but you can't really talk about this kind of stuff on here.
