nope not at all.

lmfao thats not ska, thats a disgrace. ska-core is a horrid ripoff of a beautiful culture that these bands dont begin to understand. reggae, ska, rocksteady and dancehall... its not all about smoking ganja and swimming on the beach. its about religion, its about true hardship (like 3rd world hardship) and its about love.

ska is a jamaican music from the 60's. examples of ska are: the wailers, the maytals, the israellites, desmond dekker, lee perry, etc.. you better go watch the movie "the harder they come" before you go around your town dressin like a rubeboy and talking that nonesense boy!

Streetlight Manifesto is 100x better than any of these 'real' ska bands you posted.

I was friends with some of the guys of Reel Big Fish when they first formed. However, most of em were in college and I was a freshman in high school, so I couldn't join em... sad.gif

I did get to play a gig with them in Springfield, MA once. biggrin.gif

I'm a trumpeter. wink.gif

o ya? your talking about the nyc/jersey band with the guy that used to be in "gimp" right? that is not ska. it might sound similar, and might appeal to your ear but it shares absolutely none of the defining values of "ska" ive done plenty of research on this music. the genre "3rd wave ska" is as close a label you could find for that band. not saying i dont like their music. am saying they have no business playing this type of music or at least calling ska. is a slap in the face to the traditional style. -very sad all the new "punk" and "ska" bands are turning into fucking pop music.

checkout hepcat's album scientific. they are a newer band that is considered ska but a bit more fused into jazz and could even be considered "poppy".

R-r-r-rude bwai!

Looks like we have at least one person who appreciates the roots of the scene... wink.gif

This is by no means a definitive list, but this should get you started on some First- and Second-Wave Ska:

The Beat
The Selecter
Madness
Bad Manners
Desmond Dekker
Prince Buster
The Skatalites

Extra credit:

The Bodysnatchers
Toots & the Maytals
Funboy Three

...and /vouch Hepcat. Good stuff. happy.gif

edit: Whoops! That's what I get for postin' before I read; I thought this was a "help me find Ska bands" thread, and TOTALLY glazed over the fact that the OP has an Aquabats ava/sig. laugh.gif

Third-Wave is fun, too. smile.gif It's not as near and dear to my heart as First- or Second-Wave, but its fun. smile.gif
