Do you play gigs, or bedroom practice, need to be heard over drums?

there's not a whole lot of really good amps out there for under $500. i mean most of the big brands offer one or two really great amps within that price range, but thats about it. go for tube rather than solid state if you can afford it. you'll never go back. you probably cant play too much dimebagish stuff on it but i bought a fender blues junior a long time ago for like 350-400 bucks and to this day that is probably my favorite amp i've ever owned

Well if you're not gigging then you are practicing arent you. But anyway because metal players prefer lots of headroom with alot of pre-amp distortion there are not alot of low wattage metal amps. This may be up you're alley, http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Peavey-JSX-Mini-Colossal-Guitar-Amp?sku=480777&src=3SOSWXXA
