Hello fellow guitarists, after seeing Bob(Cs2)'s awesome guide Sound Like Your Favorite Guitarists!, I've thought about it and decided to offer many different tunings (because not everyone uses the standard tuning ohmy.gif).

If you want to search for a specific tuning (You need to know the notes), use ctrl+F (or your browser's "Find" feature) and type each note with a space between, for example:

Let's start with the Standard tuning and some variations:

Standard Tuning: E A D G B e
  • Play the 5th fret Low E string and the A string open. Retune the A string to match the 5th fret Low E string.
  • Play the 5th fret A string and the D string open. Retune the D string to match the 5th fret A string.
  • Play the 5th fret D string and the G string open. Retune the G string to match the 5th fret D string.
  • Play the 4th fret G string and the B string open. Retune the B string to match the 4th fret G string.
  • Play the 5th fret B string and the High E string open. Retune the High E string to match the 5th fret B string.


Standard; Half a step down: Eb Ab Db Gb Bb eb - (D# G# C# F# A# D#)
  • Play the 4th fret Low E string and the A string open. Retune the A string to match the 4th fret Low E string.
  • Play the 5th fret A string and the D string open. Retune the D string to match the 5th fret A string.
  • Play the 5th fret D string and the G string open. Retune the G string to match the 5th fret D string.
  • Play the 4th fret G string and the B string open. Retune the B string to match the 4th fret G string.
  • Play the 5th fret B string and the High E string open. Retune the High E string to match the 5th fret B string.
  • Play the 5th fret Low E string and the A string open. Retune the 5th fret Low E to match the A string open.


Standard; A whole step down: D G C F A D
  • Play the 3rd fret Low E string and the A string open. Retune the A string to match the 3rd fret Low E string.
  • Play the 5th fret A string and the D string open. Retune the D string to match the 5th fret A string.
  • Play the 5th fret D string and the G string open. Retune the G string to match the 5th fret D string.
  • Play the 4th fret G string and the B string open. Retune the B string to match the 4th fret G string.
  • Play the 5th fret B string and the High E string open. Retune the High E string to match the 5th fret B string.
  • Play the 5th fret Low E string and the A string open. Retune the 5th fret Low E to match the A string open.


Standard; One and half steps down: Db Gb Cb Fb Ab Db - ( C# F# B E G# C# )
  • Play the 2nd fret Low E string and the A string open. Retune the A string to match the 2nd fret Low E string.
  • Play the 5th fret A string and the D string open. Retune the D string to match the 5th fret A string.
  • Play the 5th fret D string and the G string open. Retune the G string to match the 5th fret D string.
  • Play the 4th fret G string and the B string open. Retune the B string to match the 4th fret G string.
  • Play the 5th fret B string and the High E string open. Retune the High E string to match the 5th fret B string.
  • Play the 5th fret Low E string and the A string open. Retune the 5th fret Low E to match the A string open.


Standard; Two whole steps down: C F Bb Eb G C - ( C F A# D# G C )
  • Play the 1st fret Low E string and the A string open. Retune the A string to match the 1st fret Low E string.
  • Play the 5th fret A string and the D string open. Retune the D string to match the 5th fret A string.
  • Play the 5th fret D string and the G string open. Retune the G string to match the 5th fret D string.
  • Play the 4th fret G string and the B string open. Retune the B string to match the 4th fret G string.
  • Play the 5th fret B string and the High E string open. Retune the High E string to match the 5th fret B string.
  • Play the 5th fret Low E string and the A string open. Retune the 5th fret Low E to match the A string open.


B Standard: B E A D F# B
  • Play the open low E string and the A string open. Retune the A string to match the Low E string.
  • Play the 5th fret A string and the D string open. Retune the D string to match the 5th fret A string.
  • Play the 5th fret D string and the G string open. Retune the G string to match the 5th fret D string.
  • Play the 4th fret G string and the B string open. Retune the B string to match the 4th fret G string.
  • Play the 5th fret B string and the High E string open. Retune the High E string to match the 5th fret B string.
  • Play the 5th fret Low E string and the A string open. Retune the 5th fret Low E to match the A string open.

Moving on with the Drop tunings:

Drop D: D A D G B e
  • Play the 12th fret Low E string and the D string open. Retune the 12th fret Low E to match the D string open

    OR
  • Play the 7th fret Low E and the A string open. Retune the 7th fret Low E to match the A string open.


Drop C (Drop D down a whole step): C G C F A D
  • Play the 3rd fret Low E string and the A string open. Retune the A string to match the 3rd fret Low E string.
  • Play the 5th fret A string and the D string open. Retune the D string to match the 5th fret A string.
  • Play the 5th fret D string and the G string open. Retune the G string to match the 5th fret D string.
  • Play the 4th fret G string and the B string open. Retune the B string to match the 4th fret G string.
  • Play the 5th fret B string and the High E string open. Retune the High E string to match the 5th fret B string.
  • Play the 12th fret Low E string and the D string open. Retune the 12th fret Low E to match the D string open.


Drop B: B F# B E G# C#
  • Play the 2nd fret Low E string and the A string open. Retune the A string to match the 2nd fret Low E string.
  • Play the 5th fret A string and the D string open. Retune the D string to match the 5th fret A string.
  • Play the 5th fret D string and the G string open. Retune the G string to match the 5th fret D string.
  • Play the 4th fret G string and the B string open. Retune the B string to match the 4th fret G string.
  • Play the 5th fret B string and the High E string open. Retune the High E string to match the 5th fret B string.
  • Play the 12th fret Low E string and the D string open. Retune the 12th fret Low E to match the D string open.


Drop A: A E A D G B
  • Play the Low E string open and the A string open. Retune the A string to match the Low E string open.
  • Play the 5th fret A string and the D string open. Retune the D string to match the 5th fret A string.
  • Play the 5th fret D string and the G string open. Retune the G string to match the 5th fret D string.
  • Play the 5th fret G string and the B string open. Retune the B string to match the 5th fret G string.
  • Play the 4th fret B string and the High E string open. Retune the High E string to match the 4th fret B string.
  • Play the 12th fret Low E string and the D string open. Retune the 12th fret Low E to match the D string open.


Drop D down half a step: Db Ab Db Gb Bb eb (C# G# C# F# A# D#)
  • Play the 4th fret Low E string and the A string open. Retune the A string to match the 4th fret Low E string.
  • Play the 5th fret A string and the D string open. Retune the D string to match the 5th fret A string.
  • Play the 5th fret D string and the G string open. Retune the G string to match the 5th fret D string.
  • Play the 4th fret G string and the B string open. Retune the B string to match the 4th fret G string.
  • Play the 5th fret B string and the High E string open. Retune the High E string to match the 5th fret B string.
  • Play the 12th fret Low E string and the D string open. Retune the 12th fret Low E string to match the D string open.


Double Drop D: D A D G B D
  • Play the 12th fret Low E string and the D string open. Retune the 12th fret Low E to match the D string open
  • Play the 3rd fret B string and the High E string open. Retune the High E string to match the 3rd fret B string

Let's continue with the Open tunings:

Open D5: D A D A D D
  • Play the 12th fret Low E and the D string open. Retune the 12th fret Low E to match the D string open.
  • Play the 7th fret D string and the G string open. Retune the G string to match the 7th fret D string.
  • Play the 5th fret G string and the B string open. Retune the B string to match the 5th fret G string.
  • Play the B string open and the High E string open. Retune the High E string open to match the B string open.

Open C: C G C G C E
  • Play the 9th fret Low E stirng and the A string open. Retune the 9th fret Low E to match the A string open.
  • Play the 7th fret Low E and the A string open. Retune the A string to match the 7th fret Low E.
  • Play the 12th fret Low E and the D string open. Retune the D string to match the 12th fret Low E.
  • Play the 12th fret A string and the G string open. Retune the G string to match the 12th fret A string.
  • Play the 5th fret G string and the B string open. Retune the B string to match the 5th fret G string.
  • Play the 4th fret B string and the High E open. Retune the High E string to match the 4th fret B string.

Open G: D G D G B D
  • Play the 7th fret Low E and the A string open. Retune the 7th fret Low E to match the A string open.
  • Play the 5th fret Low E and teh A string open. Retune the A string to match the 5th fret Low E.
  • Play the 3rd fret B string and the High E open. Retune the High E to match the 3rd fret B string.

Open D: D A D F# A D - ( D A D Gb A D )
  • Play the 7th fret Low E and the A string open. Retune the 7th fret Low E to match the A string open.
  • Play the 4th fret D string and the G string open. Retune the G string to match the 4th fret D string.
  • Play the 3rd fret G string and the B string open. Retune the B string to match the 3rd fret G string.
  • Play the 5th fret B string and the High E string open. Retune the High E string to match the 5th fret B string.

"Open A: E A E A C# E - ( E A E A Db E )
  • Play the 7th fret A string and the D string open. Retune the D string to match the 7th fret A string.
  • Play the 5th fret D string and the G string open. Retune the G string to match the 5th fret D string.
  • Play the 4th fret G string and the B string open. Retune the B string to match the 4th fret G string.

"Open E: E B E G# B E - ( E B E Ab B E )
  • Play the 7th fret Low E and the A string open. Retune the A string to match the 7th fret Low E.
  • Play the 12th fret Low E and the D string open. Retune the D string to match the 12th fret Low E.
  • Play the 4th fret D string and the G string open. Retune the G string to match the 4th fret D string.

Open F#m: B F# C# F# A C#
  • Play the 10th fret Low E string and the A String open. Retune the 10th fret Low E to match the A string open.
  • Play the 7th fret Low E string and the A string open. Retune the A string to match the 7th fret Low E string
  • Play the 7th fret A string and the D string open. Retune the D string to match the 7th fret A string.
  • Play the 5th fret D string and the G String open. REtune the G string to match the 5th fret D string.
  • Play the 3rd fret G string and the B string open. Retune the B string to match the 3rd fret G String.
  • Play the 4th fret B string and the High E open. Retune the High E to match the 4th fret B string.


Open Bm: Db Fb Db Fb Ab Fb
  • Play the 8th fret Low E string and the A string open. Retune the 8th fret Low E String to match the A string open.
  • Play the 3rd fret Low E string and the A string open. Retune the A string to match the 3rd fret Low E string.
  • Play the 9th fret A string and the D string open. REtune the D string to match the 9th fret A string.
  • Play the 3rd fret D string and the G string open. Retune the G String to match the 3rd fret D string.
  • Play the 4th fret G string and the B string open. REtune the B string to match the 4th fret G string.
  • Leave the High E as it is

Look at tabs, if the band does not tune to EADGBe, the tab will usually note it (any good tab will).

If you need to know what a metal band tunes to, feel free to ask me, I will probably know smile.gif

Guide is quite simple and most will google it before looking to JSP tongue.gif Still doesn't cover The Acacia Strain tuning to Drop G#, Mortician's G tuning, or seven strings, but I find it is easier to teach people how to do standard, drop, and open tunings, and they can figure out any other tuning from there.

dude!

DAGDAD -not for metal, for acoustic guitar, sounds amazing on a guit with good low end (like a martin or whatever). these tunings listed are rediculous btw...
