Alright, I'm totally jealous because of this whole distorted guitar thing.
I have 2 guitars.
I have an amp.
I listen to rock music.
Shit like AFI.
If you guys want, listen to "Miss Murder" by AFI.
Listen to the guitar though.
When the song leads into the chorus, you hear a chord and then there's a chugging sound.
I wanna be able to make that chugging sound.
I turn on my gain, my Trebly Max, Base none, Gain max, and I try to do the same thing.
I don't get a chugging sound though.

Sounds like the same chord but it's palm muted.

You're right.
I try to palm mute, but how do you do it exactly?
I taught myself guitar so I'm no expert.

You apply pressure to the strings using the palm of the hand you strum with.

Here's how to do it if you want clarification:

palm muting is pretty much what the name says. you rest the back part of your palm (pinkie area) on/near the bridge and strum....

hold your palm at base of your bridge, mess with it a little bit if you want to you can get different tones by moving your towards or away from the neck. learn this technique sit with it and then play with it. if you cant figure out how the song goes exactly drop your attempt at the song for a week and just mess around with your new found palm muting technique then u will be able to pick it up with no problem

Turn your gain on 8, treble on 7, bass on 4.

Then try it.

You can actually get a similar sound by placing your finger between the nut and the first fret, basically touching the nut. If you know how to do natural harmonics, do that, just basically on the nut. It's hard to describe, but it will basically either sound like a failed harmonic or a successful mute.

Palm mute is better, though. happy.gif

Some advice, don't listen to AFI if you're learning to play guitar. That shit will make you worse at guitar, no joke.

I'm gonna stick with the palm mute.
Also, I've only gotten better listening to AFI.
Most of their songs are full bar chords, so I've gotten really good at that, I learned different techniques playing their songs and yeah... I can't really say they've made me worse.
