id say acoustic because you will have more dexterity when you play electric
plus acoustic gets the girls, electric makes you look cool
thats about what it comes down to really
nah but just go to any guitar store and try a few out, WE cant tell you want to buy because everyones guitar preferences are different
vouch thisMake sure you or someone with more experience (not the salesmen) plays the exact instrument you buy. do not let them go in back and get you a different guitar even its the exact same model. all low end guitars are made on assembly lines. meaning one can play/feel a lot different from another even though its the exact same model. I've always bought used guitars so I have never dealt with this. just make sure your happy with your purchase whether its acoustic or electric. Also, starting on an acoustic will strengthen your hands much faster then an electric. Therefore I would start with acoustic. it really doesn't matter which brand/color/shape the guitar is aslong as your comfortable playing it.
As for learning to play.. people want results so fast these days. just know that you will be frustrated when learning something new and sometimes it will feel like you are not improving at all. You must have a deep love for the instrument. the desire to learn is rarely something a teacher can give you. you must have that desire within you without anyone having to push you. with all of the resources there are now on the internet, I would suggest teaching yourself. If you do take lessons, it should be after you're completely exhausted trying to understand something and you truely feel as if you've pushed yourself as far as possible. picking the right teacher for you is important. be prepared with many questions for your new teacher and make sure your teacher understands what your tastes & goals are as a guitarist.
