Does it have to be a piano? I'd get a keyboard.

But, if it has to be a piano, you might be able to find one for a decent price used. Check like craigslist, I've actually seen a couple free ones on there.

search your local newspaper classifieds

theres usually someone trying to unload an old piano for cheap.

I've never purchased a piano so I have no idea about a price

I think it would depend on what type of piano you want.

if your just looking for one to mess around with, consider buying a keyboard from a music store.

they have the ones that have the keys light up to help you learn.

Painos are extremely expensive, so are good keyboards. Pianos require maintence, and you'll probably have to get it tuned if it's free, and on the side of the road.
