my first electric was an esp ltd h series. it was 200 dollars at face price i got for 170. still using it from time to time today,

start with a folk guitar, to train your hands. way better.

just dont get an mg or a spider for an amp.

but for learning just get cheap stuff and if you play alot and want something more then wait till birthday or a holiday

Someone else suggested a "folk" guitar which i am guessing they mean acoustic, they are good to learn on also because harder to push strings down so trains fingers and also you dont hear mistakes as much as on electric which is amped up and its very blatant when you make a mistake, so they aren't a bad idea for a starting guitarist.
