i would not listen to those who say you dont need lessons. ask anyone who competes or performs professionally (not talking about a band, i mean gun for hire). lessons are very helpful and i do not feel they "shape" the picker. find a good teacher that will listen to what you want to learn and (seeing how youve got exp already) will bend to your style of play. i had a great great teacher named andy mckee (all over youtube nowadays, look him up) and wish i would have stuck with him instead of stopping lessons. he would listen to me play and say, "what do you think of this riff?" id either learn or not depending. ofc playing by ear is not a bad way to learn, you get much better by playing with someone, especially if your styles match and especially if they are better than you.

good luck!

tyvm for your input.
I feel I have an excellent teacher... it's just soemtimes... I feel that there is a littleee. tension between us and i feel as if he don't care if i suck.
When I mess up, he tells me to back it up, shows me proper fingering, telling me to check for the tone when I bend.

ex: 8th fret 1 and a half step bend, he would teklll me to match the 11th fret and he will keeep going on until i get it.
So far, I can do the first page of the solo... problem is, I now have a fuckin blisteron my middle finger... i gotta let that heal before it pops on my string LOL

I've been playing guitar for about a year now...
I taught myself how to play and such and now my Dad thinks that I need a teacher to teach me the fundamentals and stuff or else it's just talent going to waste.
I don't have a foundation yet so I am really excited for my guitar lesson tomorrow at 7:00.
I will keep this updated on how it goes.

I would personally tell your dad to eff off. You don't need a guitar teacher if you spend some time on it. You can teach yourself everything smile.gif

GL though

I love the way you phrased that, "stick of shit" lol. I would look at maybe a Fender, or an Ibanez. You want something with a Whammy bar, between the £200-£400 range. Or, $300-$600 range if you are a yank happy.gif

I play guitar so and so, I am really new to it, but I dont have much time to pick it up anymore, I have:

-School (Im taking all the Harder Courses, such as Spanish, Advanced English, etc..)
-Learning Japanese (Home)
-Reading for Advanced English
-Dinner

So I dont really have time, if I have anytime at all I post on JSP. Even though I Joined before school started.

it's cool that you are learning japanese by yourself.
I also tried that.
I don't have the time for that.
I also have school...
I'm all academic which means all my courses are at the highest level.
I am able to keep an average of 92... in these courses but i still have time after volley ball practice which is from 3-6 to do my homework play guitar/jsp/play warcraft/combat arms/ etc....
