Sorry, this says musician's chat. Rap isn't music, so therefore you are not qualified to participate. Learn to play a real instrument other than a sampler/vocalist gone retarded and I might consider not autosquelching you. Oh, and enforced conformity is a mindcrime. Something else I have had to physically beat into the skull of more than a few pathetic rednecks in this pathetic state. Yes, we take that shit personally, at least every long-haired metal head I've ever known does.

To the poster a few #'s up, gotta give props to Eric Johnson, even though he's not my cup of tea. Cliffs was amazing, and the man's legato is beyond flawless. He touches his pick to the strings maybe once a week.

Out of those, i chose Hendrix, but definately rate Clapton and Page up there. Yngwie Malmsteen, Zakk Wylde and Alexi Laiho are also favourites of mine

Add : Jason Becker, Herman Li, Michael Angelo Batio, Paul Gilbert, Chris
Impelliteri, John Pettrucci, Yngwie Malmsteen.  All for now off the top of
my head.

EDIT
: And Marty Friedman pwns anyone listed up there in the poll with the exception
of Dime, as none of them could DREAM of playing alongside Becker in Cacophony.

n1 list

Jason Becker.. to bad he got owned by Lou Gerhigs disease.. would've been Top 5 in today's top shred list imo.

Shawn Lane.. also insane.. but tough to listen to sometimes.

Some of my favs from more of a Jazz outlook.. Jon Scofield, John Mclaughlin, Al Di Meola, Pat Martino, Wes Montgomery, George Benson.. gfg

I will refrain from voting untill a better list appears

Kirk hammett ftw ! tongue.gif slash also but i just hate jimi hendrix ...

I will say one more thing.. this was exactly my feeling when I was 14.
Metallica (kirk) was the reason I got into music.. and I had absolutely no respect for Jimi.

I think once the music you like is no longer a challenge to play.. you move onto to something else

Di Meola, knew I forgot one from that genre. That dude and Mclaughlin are from another fuckin' planet.

+1 vote to Angus. He isn't the best, but who else has gotten the govenator into a school boys outfit and rocked out?

Suprised it took that long for someone to say the Vai.
Depending on mood/feel ur going for, there are also:
Carlos Santana
Joe Satriani
Alex Lifeson(from rush-yeah, i kno...old)
John Frusciante(RHCP)

Its not always how fast you play wink.gif

Lifeson never gets enough recognition. When your band mates are Neil Peart & Geddy Lee it is hard to get attention.
