I'm right there with you brothah! Sitting here with D'Addario heavy's on my acoustic that I haven't changed for a few months. Now usually I change every 2 weeks or so, but I've been very busy, and I can't be buying new strings every two weeks. I hate the sound I get in the first week and a half, finally for like 2 days they sound amazing to me, then after that they become extremely dead. But D'Addario heavys that are dead still sound much better than every other brand, in my experience.

yes, yes, higher tension will always sound better! i like to use mediums and tune my guitar up a whole step to play in A (playing G chord). this sounds awesome when backing up a loud banjo/fiddle. on fiddle i use cross tuning (instead of GDAE its AEAE) the higher tension on lower strings also sounds awesome. im all for changing the standard neck length to about an inch longer. would sound so much better and you would barely notice the difference in your left hand!

I can't play with anything except extra-light, for some reason the bones in the centre of my palm click every time i do bends with heavy strings... pretty fucked up really but that's the price you pay for being a drummer!

An extra inch or 2 on the neck would be great, I'd love a 7 string if it didn't ruin all the chords I've already learned so the extra couple of frets would help out big time for stuff like transposing classical compositions, my long spindly arms wouldn't notice any different either :D

Haha I would have to do some truss rod adjusting before I would feel safe tuning my guitar that tight. I usually stick to heavies and tune down a half step, just to give my guitar a little slack. Plus Eb Standard seems to fits my vocal range better. The only problem with playing dead strings is the non-wound strings seem to start getting out of tune after like 5 minutes of playing. But hey, that's the price you pay for amazing tone o.O
