I do. I say it when the person played a role in my life (I.E: Family members, friends, etc.).



I don't feel that my views on his ability to play the drums are disrespectful.
My opinion is that he is not 'one of the greatest drummers of all time', as opposed to what a good bit of people are saying. I will always speak my mind, regardless of how it effects people. I always have, and I always will. If some people happen to believe that I am being disrespectful, that is their problem; not mine.

It is not your opinion on his drumming abilities that is disrespectful (I share the same opinion as you), it is the fact you completely give no shit about a human being's death who didn't do anything to offend you or earn your disrespect.
