Today we learned some new chords and started playing Hotel California by the Eagles.

But without lessons you will limit yourself.

you are suppose to play other peoples music, it's called building repertoire. Most times when people compose music they take ideas of other musicians and build on that.

by getting lessons you are definately not limiting your self if anything you will learn faster than if you hadnt gotten a teacher.

I'm getting really good from the little things I'm being taught.
My picking is almost double the speed and same with moving across the fret board.
Something I can't do alone.

Lessons is good for learning thoery. People who say "fuck theory" are obviously morons. Do you think any of the big name guitarists said that?

I took lessons for about a year and learned so much. Learning how to structure chords and chord progressions, learning all the modal shapes (huge for soloing technique), and so much more.

One thing I will say though, find a GOOD TEACHER. This might be hit or miss...but you've got to be selective on who you take lessons from.

I have a sick teacher.
He is one of my Dad's friends and he plays huge gigs and shows in the Asian community here in Hamilton.
My Dad is a drummer... well sorta and he knows a bunch of pros.
He met up with this guy who has a Bachelor Degree in Jazz Guitar and so I wanted to take lessons from him.
He has speedy gonzalez fingers man xD
So YES, I did find a good teacher.

I took piano for 4 years and I also took Music this year in highschool so I know a lot of theory.
Turns out, I'm wrong.
Guitar theory is pretty hard...

Today.. was very frustrating for me.
We tried doing the solo to Hotel California.
I simply cannot do it.
It's soo hard.
My fingers are killing me... they are fucked to the bone.
There are too many bends and that is basically what I am having trouble with...
