FKING LOL. "Mainstream?" Yngwie has absolutely no tone or soul, and just shreds really shitty all the time. That's NOT talent.
If you want to hear talent, listen to blues. Clapton, Beck, Hendrix, Muddy Waters, Albert King, B.B. King, John Lee Hooker, Chuck Berry, etc.
And most of all, Robert Johnson. NONE of these guitarists would be here today without Robert Johnson.
Of course. Most blues players turn their nose up at neoclassical shred, and have absolutely no ear for classical melody. Not that that's a bad thing, as then they'd lose the one edge going for them, which is soul. At heart though, most of them are just jealous that the shredders can play with soul
and technique. A pity, really.

the first guys u named are all shred demons, not my cup of tea...thought jason becker was a very very talented guitarist who i enjoy listening too...as wel as Satch.
I'm all about the neoclassical shred. Especially in the case of Becker, he had it all : the chops, the soul, and the speed. Shred with the best or die with the rest, and thrash til death, ftw.
