There's no right and wrong in music except for the obvious (like how can you honestly love music AND Justin Bieber?) but I do agree with chronowarp to some extent. JP is definitely overestimated by most because he plays fast. But that doesn't make him the most accurate or melodic guitarist out there.

Small minded is thinking that because you can believe something it automatically is valid, or as valid as well-supported views & conclusions.

Don't be. I think it's important that we all try to understand the sad, boring little world chronowarp lives in so we can be sure not to end up like him.

But...you're the one arguing from that position, not me. Just because you can have an opinion does not make it valid or even worth entertaining. If you think guitar wankers exemplify "good musicians" then you fall into the camp of "shitty opinions", and try to argue from a position of "everything is subjective" in an attempt to keep your shitty views intact.

That's almost as delusional as Darkshade. I grew up listening to guitarcentric music, and used to like it. That was before my musical tastes matured, and I realized it was, for the most part, musically inept wanking. There are gems in the fields of shit, but generally it's just bad news. I'm 22, any guitarist from my generation has grown up on the internet. Growing up on the internet ensures that you will be exposed to: Paul Gilbert, Joe Satriani, Yngwie Malmsteen, Steve Vai, Chris Broderick, Rusty Cooley, Marty Friedman, Steve Morse, Jason Becker, John Petrucci, Marc Sfogli, Guthrie Govan, Shawn Lane, etc. I know who all of these guitarists are, I've heard everything they've done & enjoyed some of their music in the past - and a few of them still.

However, as you actually develop an ear for music and what makes good music it becomes clear that a vast majority of guitar centric 'music' is worthless trash. I'm sorry, but that's just the way it is.
