Sorry, gotta disagree with that. Marty Friedman was one part of the greatest shred tandem of all time, Cacophony. Randy was amazing in his own way, but like all pioneers, his work has been surpassed by his predecessors. Dime and Kirk both were instrumental in molding the metal sound with their guitar tones, but weren't nearly the virtuosos RR and Marty were. As such, Marty ftw, until someone adds Jason Becker or Michael Angelo Batio.

Although Kirk's solo's were DRENCHED in the wah he is still an exceptional guitarist.

Personally I like the works of those like Don Ross and Andy Mckee and think they are more
skilled TECHNICALLY then those listed above. I find it is much easier to sound "clean" when
you have a heavy distortion and a multi thousand dollar rack supporting your sound then it
is when you have an acoustic plugged straight into an amp, or mic'd.
