My favorite guitarist is Jim Root (Slipknot, Stone Sour).
The man knows how to play smoothly and with rhythm.
And man, he knows how to play a guitar.
I'm about a paycheck away from buying his signature guitar.

How about putting someone that played AFTER the 80's and early 90's, there are so many guitarists who will kill at least half of these people in modern times, retard -.-

eww, none of the above.

in terms of songwriting and use of guitar harmonies and such it would be a tie between Mikael Akerfeldt of Opeth and Michael Amott of Carcass & Arch Enemy for me. In terms of pure shredding, technique, speed, and cleanliness it would be Jani Liimatainen formerly of Sonata Arctica.
