anyone who says dream theater is lifeless or complex for the sake of being complex never took the time to really listen to them. their music is not complex at all, its clever, and their songs all tell a story, and very well.

back on topic, really nice playing bud, that solo is always fun to play, its great to learn because the techniques used will take you far in your playing


The bolded part is absolute bollocks. YOU are under the DT spell of thinking their music has meaning. No, it doesn't. It is a great way for 4 of the best musicians in the world to be as complicated and showy-offy as possible over a 5-15minute period.

Already knew cliffs, but except the intro it's not that complicated.

I know I'm difficult (and I apologize haha), but I don't want to pass a week or two learning a song that I don't really feel like learning, especially when exam week is coming up.

Actually, no, he's right. I'm not just saying it because I really like DT, but because it's true. Many of their songs DO tell a story, or have a concept containing both interesting lyrical and musical aspect.

They are not complicated just for the sake of being complicated, but to show they do have a certain intelligence and an incredible sens of music.
Just take The Dance of Eternity for example, of course it is extremely complicated, but it's not just for the showoff; a song with such a complex structure cannot be composed by any musician that just decides they want to do something complicated. It requires time, effort and a lot of intelligent work.

I don't know if you get what I mean, but I tried to explain as best as I could.

Just read back a few pages - I found the topic where you said you were gonna learn this and needed some advice, and some douche called MathCorey or something was calling you a noob.

I just learnt Fall Of Sipledome - Testament, solo n all. Need to perfect the solo though, got a nasty slide lol ^_^
