Then you are not ready to sweep that fast, dont anchor it limites your hand movement. Some people do anchor and have just learned that way but in the long run its better to not get depend on it.

The herman li video i did not understand that he moves the pick around to sweep. Imo he has terrible sweep technique and his video shows it. If you hold your pick in an efficient manner than sweeping should not be too difficult. If you are using heavy guages then it may be difficult to start because of the extra pressure necessary. But like everyone has said just practice slowly, make sure none of the strings ring out after you pick it, practice letting go of the string after you pick it gracefully (dont yank it off or it will pull it and cause it to ring)

Just keep practicing it will take a while.

He is sloppy for the most part. I never said he sucked, its just what he does in the studio does not translate well to live shows. There are much better guitarists to look up to.

Look up Shawn Lane, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Michael Romeo, Marty Friedman, Jason Becker, Eric Johnson, Eric Clapton, Yngwie Malmsteen, John "I am your god" Petrucci etc etc etc. Not "I will shit on your head" Herman Ri

May I add Jani Liimatainen, Gus G., Jeff Loomis, Chris Broderick and even maybe Alexi Laiho?

EDIT: Look at his technique: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dz3hpwKTB3I
Start it at around 1:35

Just practice a basic major and minor shape on E (7th fret A String)
theres no easy way to learn this, always gonna be hard work,
people main problem with sweeping is thinking they will just get it,
it takes TONS of practice.

I love being able to finally grasp this technique well. You just need to put many hours into practice

im sweeping just fine... pretty fast in my opinuiion but it just sounds horrible to me.

Then you aren't sweeping fine are you? Don't ask for help if you aren't gonna use it and remain on your own little power trip.

If you have an uncomfy pick position, that has to be adjusted and you gotta find a balance between your riffing style and sweeping style, find a way to transition from riffage to sweeping without any thinking. You gotta get fluent at it. I would go to a guitar teacher as you seem to have basic problems rather than the complex ones, which isn't a bad thing at all, but you should really get it sorted before you are permanently left as a sloppy and shit-technique player.

when i play normally... i can hold pick just fine..
when i sweeep...
i have to change my grip...
i cant find a comfortable grip for sweeping.

i hold the pick more lightly and slant my wrist to point the pick downward or upward in the same direction i am sweeping, so it makes it easier to glide across the strings, try slanting your wrist to the left or right as well, for less resistance from the strings.

just to try experiment with how you hold the pick, and make sure to practice switching between regular playing and sweeping so you can make the transition smoothly

edit: when you get to the top of the sweep, instead of hammer-pull-off you can alternate pick the two highest notes, that will help being able to transition.
