sure having good technique would help, but thats not what makes a musician
you sound like you know your stuff, but the problem with you is that somehow you think you have the right to bash someone who likes/loves to play the guitar
news flash "kid"... there is a lot of people who have the chops of steve vai, satriani, and etc...
but thats all they have... technique.
Not many people can phrase like eric clapton
Not many people can compose beautiful music like paco de lucia
and Not many people can jazz shit up like joe pass
i dont know why you started playing guitar, but i started becuase i saw how music can touch people's heart in a way in which nothing else can.
So before you start raging about technique, think what made you pursue music.
Props to you for being a music grad, it shows that you truly do love music.
My musical inclinations are mostly commercial but that's outside the subject. The topic of thread was "check my friend out," and I did. I find him to play good, as I said, but the kid has horrible technique. If you' ve been playing long enough and have peers or teach you'll know how frustrated people get when they can't even come close to phrasing like Eric Clapton or composing like Paco de Lucia (pro flamenco ftw) or 'jazzin' shit up like Joe because they don't have the knowledge (as in musical) or technique to do it.
