What are you having trouble with in Live? Have you figured out how to map the MPD? Also, did you check out the APC line of Akai controllers? Excellent for integration with Live. I'll try to help if I can, I primarily use Live.

understanding ableton is something i can learn, having a midi controller is something i need to buy. i never had any reason to learn ableton before having a midi controller. why ask stupid questions?

It is somewhat of a stupid question, generally if you buy musical equipment it's because you are going to learn how to use it rofl ^_^
