Wow, your older than you look.

One thing I wish I could do was read music. I need to take lessons on it so I will be able to play with a group of people using sheet music.

Sounds like you got alot of experience. You sure have alot more than I do.

Lol, the pics I have of my wife and I are a bit old, like 2-4 years old :p

But as far as experience, I don't consider myself as having a lot of actual technical experience. In fact, for someone who has played instruments as much as me, I should be a lot better IMO. Instead, I have focused on song-writing my entire life rather than actual skills on instruments.

haha ya I usually try to focus on both. finding a nice progression and practicing it and practicing scales and chord transfers. But the time spent on writing the lyrics is alot shorter than the time I spend playing the instrument.

But good lyrics is just what makes a song. but so does good intrument play.

Like Kurt Cobain always said he started with the guitar parts first. He said the words didn't matter as long as the music was right. He was known for using random words that sorta fit in with the right amount of syllables .

I'd like to teach myself piano, banjo, and sax at some point.

Yeah, that is exactly how I write my music as well. I have like probably 50+ songs that I have yet to put any lyrics on. I just write all the instrumentals and record them, and I kind of float through life waiting for something inspiration or notable to happen, and next thing I know it the lyrics will start flowing out to a particular song I have written in the past.

That's pretty sweet and an interesting way to do it. I always hear of people writing lyrics first and then putting music to it.
