Go find a guitar center or a decent shop and play some of these guitars, I have yet to purchase a guitar without playing it first man.  Also have you checked out craigslist yet? you can get some some wicked awesome deals on there if you are careful and know what you are buying.

I bought my ESP without even knowing what the fuck I was getting into.
ESP was just starting to get more and more renown, I wanted a high-end guitar and I've heard they made great metal guitars.

Turned out I made a FUCKING good deal.

Bought it $1100 on eebay (1 month old), retails for $1700.

ESP has been a major brand for metal guitars since the 80's bro, the ESP's not the ESP LTD's from the 80's are badass guitars.

although at this point, all I play are gibsons...

Seriously? Well I wasn't much in high-end guitars before, that's maybe why I haven't heard about them.

Anyways, that's not really the point. Sometimes blind buying can be very good.

I have had several ESP's and they are great guitars, but for versatility and looks I prefer my Gibsons.

As far as ESP is concerned, they are simply magnificent. I played a starter kit ESP LTD and even that was a well crafted guitar. :) i mean come on, for 200 bucks, it came with 24 frets and a floyd, that actually stayed in tune over a large period of time. :) Other ESP's I've played, such as the Viper, also rip like no other guitar. They just... feel so easy to use. garb one dude.

get an ibanez guitar from the early 90;s

you can get one in mint condition that will play 100x better than anything you can buy "new" for that price

i wrote a guide on buying used ibanez guitars here: http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/wiki/index.php/Ibanez_guitar_buying_guide#A_little_extra_info

ive been doing this for the last 4 years, and ill never buy a new ibanez again, im addicted :-\
