I play prog metal on my catalina, i brought a new snare and it all sounded good. Blake Richardson could play on any kit and it would sound good, so dont think the kit makes him sound like that.

Aha, I know that.

Like I said, I am probably going to go in and ask to play a few sets before I decide for sure. I just wanted some opinions based on other people's experiences :)

although the gretsch is awesome :D

i just bought a pearl sensitone, and for the money, it is one sweetass snare
incase you were looking for snares aswell :D

its built similarly to the ludwig 400's and 402's
but 1/3 of the price

PEARL VISION VBX!!!!!!!!!!
Iv played on pearl masters, gretsch renown maple and other gz
drumkits but pearl vision vbx sounds THE BEST of all!!!
Those drums kick ass even untuned! I dunno how its possible
that drums from class below sounds better than those high end stuff!
