i would advise against the valve jr.

It is a tube amp, 5 watts. But it only has a volume knob. There is no equalizer or gain knob. So you will need to turn it up to max for any type of distortion and even for 5 watts it will be plenty loud. And how it sounds is how it will sound no matter what you do to it (unless you plan on buying pedals but if you are gonna spend more you may as well buy an amp that gives you more options)

I would suggest you look into something with gain and eq. The hodrod deluxe and deville have this and so does the blackheat little giant.

They sell the valve senior as well which has the eq knobs

but honestly recently I bought a bugera and it is amazing for the moment, sometimes I just cant play my sovtek mig 100, its just way too loud, I got the bugera for just messing around in my house and I am extremely amazed at the sound I get out of it for a budget tube amp

Bugeras sound good, but they're manufactured by Behringer (I think). They tend to have issues. Sometimes you find a diamond in the rough though. If you don't plan to work it too hard a Bugera is probably a pretty good choice. I still stand by a Peavey Classic 30, or if you need something quieter, a Fender Blues Junior.

Bugeras are great, they had kinks in the first production but the newer production have held so far.

The one have I have had no problems with, I would have no issue buying another one, the stock tubes sound fine but once you replace them, its amazing, they are also very high gain as far as tube amps go, I really was suprised, just because they are part of a company that also producers lower end solid state amps doesn't mean they can't move out of that reputation with the bugera tube line of amps, they are really gaining in popularity..

also I believe its behringer is made by bugera.... also there guitar cabs aren't half bad either btw

What guitars do you play? You might be able to find an old Fender Champ for a decent price. They're small, but sound fantastic.

That sucks. My guitarist's has been reliable save for regular maintenance.
