The best thing to do would to just save up for a decent amp that does not need a pedal. Of course, a decent amp isn't too useful w/o a decent guitar. You can go to guitar Center and get a entry level guitar and half stack for like $1,000. My Guitarist uses a Jackson USA Soloist with a B-52 AT-100, and those two cost about 2,200 altogether. Though if you wanted cheaper you could get an Epiphone SG or some such thing and a Marshall Valvestate for less.

I disagree, a great amp through a beginner guitar can sound good.

I would suggest the Boss Metal Core pedal. I have found some fantastic metal tones, and i've got some sic pinches during Lamb Of God because of it :D

To each his own, however I think that good amps lose a lot of tone if you have a 200$ guitar plugged in.

im not saying it will give the amps good potential.

But id much rather play a Mesa Mark V through a squire than a gibson black beauty through a squire amp

I agree, I have a Roland Cube60 Combo, was my first amp and that thing sounded amazing. Especially the cleans, so crisp!

Between 30 and 50 you'll get shit all.
I've brought a $50 behringer ultra metal pedal and it was shit as.
Brought a $90 Boss distortion DS-1 which is alright, when their modded their a lot better.
Then finally i got a $240 metal master, which is lovely.
