meh. i find rhythm pretty intuitive

there is no rhythm without time dude.
take a music class
or better yet goto a music store with teachers
ask them the most important thing about music.

leme give you an example.
ever hear a drummer with no timing?
sounds like a 2 year old with sticks

yes beat.

1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and
lol i wont elaborate any more unless u got 18$ per 30 min

oh and another suggestion for the thread maker.

count while you play it really helps timing.
not in your head either out loud. trust me it really does help.
try finding the beat to anything you listen to on the radio.

Yeah, my multi-effects pedal has a (shitty) built-in drum machine and I just used that while playing scales to work on my picking.

So to the thread maker, get a metronome or a multi-effect pedal and use that while playing scales/chromatic scale and maybe if you find it necessary you could use it while playing actual songs too.

Hey, I'm probably at his level on guitar, but you guys talked about anchoring, was wondering what it meant.

this is awful, but if you're having fun, keep it up. i would imagine you are, making a 10 minute video of yourself and all. my advice would be to learn some scales and just riff around on your own till you get really comfortable with your instrument and play with people that are much better than you. i've been playing for only like 5 years, but i've jammed with 100s of people, good and bad. i've never learned a song and either discover what i know from musical odysseys or from watching friends. its all about the fun.

anybody will tell you if you can pick without anchoring, do it.

@ lilphyschokilla most of this information is useful in a way, and lots of what you said is already covered.

My question is... how is anchoring your pinky bad (geniune question)? Doesn't seem to limit some greats like Tommy E. And Chet Atkins at all... they do it frequently, obviously unless they're strumming.

Ignore the bitches telling you that you are awful, you aren't. You have grasped the basics, and all thats left is technique. May i suggest learning to alternate pick. It'll help you in Fear Of The Dark a hell of alot.

You aren't a pro, but neither are any of the other people on here so it's alright! :D I like the varying music aswell, gg

Edit - In Back In Black, try doing it like this

Code
--------0-0-0---0-0-0-------------
--------3-3-3---2-2-2-------------
--------2-2-2---2-2-2------------
-2------0-0-0---0-0-0--------------
-2---------------------------
-0---------------------------

That gets rid of that pointless high ringing note.

And another edit - Fair play at Come Clarity. When i first learnt that song, i really felt it was a milestone in my guitar playing, and you are much better than some of these fools are saying :)

And another edit - During Wild Thing, hows about playing chord | chord | wakkawakka | chord | chord | wakka | chord | chord | wakkawakkawakka | chord | chord

I hope that makes sense ^_^

There's nothing wrong with holding a pick "weird" providing it's comfortable and you aren't feeling any pain. Guitar is about a good technique, duh, but also about being comfortable and naturally flowing with the instrument.
