I actually cant be bothered to argue im off to bed. bottom line is that band you posted sucked when they started singing.

I know what im on about, and im sure some other people do.

BUT

I never see anything that soulful with such great dynamics in metal. look at the solo at 1.50 as well, that is fast...

self taught with musical background. i have respect for guys like you that learn one instrument then fathom another one out.

Between the Buried and Me is an amazing band. I agree with you on the vocals though, as they're not the best, but it gives their music a diverse sound when mixed with their instrumentals. Anyway, here's a clip from the same band you said was shit. This is a live version of a solo:

That was boring as fuck.

Where the hell is the dynamics in that, Its just some fruitcake.

Every single person in Between the Buried and Me is talented, I'll admit they are overrated to some extent. They're probably one of the most respected metal bands out there right now on a talent level.

opposed to some jerk off wanking pentatonic scales through a skin flute.

If I were going to listen to some goofballs shred for 10 minutes straight I'd rather listen to Dragonforce.

And Id rather not listen to Dragonforce at all.

well thank you.
that band sounded good, until they started singing. well if you can call it that.

dont get me wrong i like guitar and drums / bass etc. im just sick of arses who think they can play when there fumbled by a piece of paper with treble clef.

so please, gtfo and stop preaching that this thread is stupid. no one cares.

Hold on, I'm on the same page as you when you say metal/screamo isn't your type -- it isn't mine either, but just because someone can't read formal music has nothing to do with their playing/composing ability. Listen to Muse, the Singer is also the lead guitarist and is extremely talented at playing the keyboard -- he never had a teacher either. As for myself, I had learned North Indian Classical Vocal music for about 8 years.... I've been teaching myself guitar for about 1 year now, and I still can't read formal western music -- but I still play well. I'm not saying I'm amazing, but my previous years of training all carried over, even if it was different music.

you're clueless then, they are "shredders" indeed but they also make some great music.

Never said they weren't talented. Just unable to provide my ears with something Id like to hear. I like songs with climaxes. Not mindless shredding.

Well this music is fairly complex in that it contains multiple phrases and precisely avoids "climaxes". By 'climax' you refer to chorus?Well this is called neoclassical metal for a reason, there aren't really choruses, one phrase just flows into another one.
There's a lot of diversity in their compositions, technicality is a major aspect of course, just like Paganini's music.

I guess a chorus could be considered a climax.. but I was referring more to a part of a song that everything leads up to.
