You do not need to be perfect, to be able to do a song through without a mistake. When exactly did I say "you have to always play perfectly to be good"? I did not, I said a band that has to do multiple takes on EVERY song to get a good recording is bad.

You continue to blow my mind.

Maybe, but he does have a point. If you constantly need to have multiple takes on every song you're recording, there might be a problem.
Usually, when writing your own music there's a certain point where you should be able to nail it the first time (Or maybe after a small practice, but not while recording that is).

Also, don't bring up the "playing live" subject as it occurs something way different than "recording".

I've recorded in 4 different studios, and sat through many bands recording sessions.
Believe me, no band takes 1-3 tries per song..

Any good producer would never allow such a thing.
That's why cds take months to be released.

Yes, many bands do. The Allman Brothers would often record a song in 1 take. These days fewer and fewer bands practice enough though, to be able to accomplish this. CDs take months to be released typically due to legal matters

There are many other reasons in why CDs take months to be released, and even if recording is included, sometime it is not the major problem.
Of course, like I said, none will actually 1-shot everything, and it might require time to actually get a incredible take, but I doubt that it would take 15+ takes.

Vouch.
And of course it's basically impossible to 1-shot everything, but it is not unheard of that a few of the songs in an album are the first take. I know a local musician who recorded his album in a weekend, 10 out of the 12 songs were first takes. Of course, I'll repeat it some bands these days will not be able to get through a single song on the first try, and it is because they don't practice enough >.<

You're kidding me right?
The Allman Brothers? You're using them as an example? A 70-80's band?

The producer who is currently doing pre-production with my band for our newest CD got the raws for Stairway to heaven.

He spent 4 days mixing it properly by new age standards, fixing all guitar tweeks, beat detecting the drums so they're actually 100% perfect and tuning the vocals 100%

it sounds 20x better.

Don't compare modern recording to that of the olden days.

15+ takes is pushing it yes, the only time i've seen such is for complicated parts that are hard to get perfect.

By this I mean it sounds very modern, and perfect.
It is in no way authentic of course, it was just for fun.
