Ehh...

Guitar lessons imo are not necessary, or usefull. Sure, if you all you wanna do is play songs other people wrote, its not so bad. But getting lessons from someone else really mutilates your own creative way of doing things, and learning on your own is the best way to achieve your own style.

You're an idiot, also wrong.

27.
Today, I got a new book.
It funk/jazz/blues, lots of techniques... I'm doing some Rolling Stones from the book right now, it's awesome... but I'm having trouble with fretting 3 strings with my ring finger and holding a fret with my index 2 frets above.

He's not wrong at all.
They do rob you of creativity/style.

imo if you have been playing for that long you should only go for a few lessons for some pointers on how to get the most out of your practice time and to make sure you are doing the basics right, because otherwise yeah, you could just be wasting your time and tallent

they also teach you things you don't know. Learning by ear is just not enough, music theory is very important if you ever want to write songs or work on complicated chord sequences etc...

Mmm, no they help you build the repertoire and technique to develop your own style and express your creativity. God, you're an idiot.

On my own, I couldn't do this stuff... you guys don't understand that he's just teaching me techniques... not showing me how to play songs.

Yeah they are very useful, but they do take away creativity. Im not against them. I took them for years myself and i'm a huge theory buff. I'm leaving for music college soon..
