If you really have enough motivation & ambition to play an instrument, you don't really need a teacher.
But if you're not sure if you want to occupy your time with playing bass, it's better to have some lessons to see how you like it. Because a bass isen't so expensive, and if you buy one you can keep it for years.

Get lessons. unless you already play another instrument and know your theory.

How about, do what you feel you need to do in order to become the best musician you can be.

Having a teacher is nice, gives you guidance and helps set goals and achieve them.
This can be done alone with some extra effort, time and patience to research and find the knowledge the teacher could give off the top of his head.

Having a shitty teacher will not help you reach any goals and will probably take up a ton of time

its your call

Alright... lesson ended.
I must say... it was great!
I learned the Pentatonic A scale and some finger excercises for solos.
Also, I learned to relax some fingers and he showed me where to hit.
I do not think these lessons are useless.
They are great!

There are two types of guitar teachers:
One will focus on teaching you music theory and explaining how you can go about creating your own music or finding your sound
The other will give you assignments of songs to practice every week and nothing else.

The second is useless... it sounds like you're getting lessons from the first type of teacher. The lessons will actually teach you something.

What he is doing is assigning songs, but putting them into context by explaining how the artists used scales/etc to make them.
Basically, yes it's like a mix of the two teaching methods, I'd say you have a good teacher. What you need to look out for though, is the teachers who just assign you songs out of a book and teach you nothing about theory smile.gif
