Ehh...

Guitar lessons imo are not necessary, or usefull. Sure, if you all you wanna do is play songs other people wrote, its not so bad. But getting lessons from someone else really mutilates your own creative way of doing things, and learning on your own is the best way to achieve your own style.

It really depends on your teacher. I must say, the majority of teachers (in my experience) will just be a creative hindrance to you.
However, if you get a good teacher who knows that you need to be learning music theory, rather than specific songs, you can actually do very well with lessons.

Maybe this was already said but I don't really wanna read all 14 pages :/

Alright... the guitar gig was siickkkkk yesterday..
but ummm i stoped playing cuz my teacher... he went really far ahead while i was following the drum beat..
i dunno he fucked me up

Today, we started doing some sweeps.
He's building on my technique so I can play solos better.
So we're doing Bluesy sweeps atm.

Always know when beat one is, so if you get lost or mess up a bar, you can start again on beat one, instead of getting confused, or speeding up to catch up, or skipping ahead.

lessons inspire you because you get to see a person who is good at guitar play in front of you, and you learn visually from it and they can help you when your stuck. Guitar lessons are worth it if you are really comitted to learning.

This.

And it doesn't limit your creativity, unless you let it.

When i took bass lessons for my first 3 years, My teacher helped me to correct mistakes i was making that would have taken my alot longer to notice. As far as helping to to write my own music, his position on it was basically 'These are the scales, but you don't need to use them. Following them will sound a bit more melodic, but write whatever you want it to sound like, don't limit yourself with scales and patterns'

I've been playing guitar for about a year now...
I taught myself how to play and such and now my Dad thinks that I need a teacher to teach me the fundamentals and stuff or else it's just talent going to waste.
I don't have a foundation yet so I am really excited for my guitar lesson tomorrow at 7:00.
I will keep this updated on how it goes.

my dad has played guitar all his life never took a lesson and hes gg lol
