maybe because he is the father of heavy metal... HE TOTALLY OWNS. you are the only one who thinks that

You're dumb.

Kirk Hammett is good, but he doesn't totally own.

There are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better guitarists out there. Just take Buckethead for example.

then explain me why he is the second fav. guitarist in this poll

For the same reason Britney Spears sells more albums than any metal band ever has.

I think Dave Mustaine could have gotten somewhere without the influence of Metallica (I'm not too sure about the other way around). I don't think you can really say that metallica are responsible for Slayer either. Lets face it without motorhead there probably would be no such thing as thrash metal and then by extension the new "extreme" metal genres.

saying metallica started it all is like saying Nirvana are responsbile for the grunge scene. Alice In Chains were well on their way before Nevermind.

i agree... but i have to say that nirvana with smells like teen spirit kind of started grunge. And Metallica quite got influenced by motorhead, but metallica inspired slayer. In the 80's they needed a band to start that type of hardcore metal and metallica did.

Smells Like Teen Spirit made grunge big, it didn't start it.

And Metallica certainly were among the forerunners and very influential on many bands of the period, but other bands deserve their due respect (too many to really list).

LMFAO at the kirk hammet bandwagoners. James Hetfield > Hammet all fucking day.

I picked hendrix, but how could you forget John Frusciante or Stevie Ray Vaughan? Paul Gilbert? Tom Morello? =/

This is about favorite guitarist, not best. So whoever is most popular is going to get most votes. Even if it were about best most people on these forums would not have enough musical knowledge to really make decision that was not based on preference in some way.
