"Some of you youngsters will no doubt say "WTF is a classic rock band doing in a heavy metal list?" It is true that AC/DC has become darlings of the classic rock radio circuit, also their recent performance with the Rolling Stones in Canada to several hundred thousand people only goes to show that their appeal extends well outside of the metal realm. All this aside, that does not mean that their contribution to heavy metal in the 70's and 80's should be ignored! BACK IN BLACK is not only one of the best heavy metal albums of all time, it is also one of the best selling "normal" albums of all time as well!!"

I found this on some site doing top 100 metal albums.

First thing classic rock as a classification is horrible. It is a creation of radio stations for rock bands from 60s-early 80s.

They are a hard rock band. I don't give a shit what some website says, they are hard rock. They would classify themselves as rock and roll though. Either way they aren't metal, even if they have influenced metal a lot.

Then that site is ridiculously biased toward the 80s anyways

hard rock... make the difference... i bet you got your shit on a nowere site... and besides, maybe AC/DC is the best hard rock band, metallica is the best and the most well known heavy- trash/speed metal band in history, and will always be. THEY started the movement and without them you wouldn't have classic metal bands as pantera, slayer and slipknot.

I think Dave Mustaine could have gotten somewhere without the influence of Metallica (I'm not too sure about the other way around). I don't think you can really say that metallica are responsible for Slayer either. Lets face it without motorhead there probably would be no such thing as thrash metal and then by extension the new "extreme" metal genres.

saying metallica started it all is like saying Nirvana are responsbile for the grunge scene. Alice In Chains were well on their way before Nevermind.
