Thank you - THATS what I was looking for. I knew I didn't have to fork out money when I've got the adapter.

Btw - Woss Reaper? ^_^

A DAW (Digital Audio Workstation), like Audacity is, but WAY better (and it's free as long as it's not commercially used); comparable to Cubase.

Are you serious? You plug your guitar in your microphone jack, launch Reaper, hit record and shred it off like there's no tomorrow. Of course you'll need some VSTs to make it sound great (check out LePou's plugins, they are free and INCREDIBLE)!

In theory, if I plug my guitar into my metalcore pedal, then from pedal into adapter which goes into laptop - I can play with distortion?

I guess so... But it's gonna sound like crap lol

VSTs aren't gonna make everything magically sound pretty.

The #1 thing to get right is your source and your source is a mic jack in a laptop lol. So it won't sound good rofl.

It will make sound, but not sound or play good, there is issue called LATENCY, without a proper interface or soundcard to buffer and compensate the signal you will get a HUGE delay between your guitar signal and the computer. Then all you will get is an unpowered clean signal which will sound bad and delay anywhere from a fraction of a second to several seconds making live playback impossible and difficult to record with, not only does an interface provide a proper preamp so to say to boost your signal it also will compensate for the latency.

This is a moot point though. You can get a brand new usb interface for under a hundred dollars and just use vsts and you will be golden. Kind of pointless arguing about an adapter when you can get an interface by not buying beef jerkey at the gas station for a month or however else you bleed yourself of money in small amounts

At Rushton and Automatica:

I know that don't worry! I was just saying, if you don't have the money to buy an interface (and FireWire is way better than USB by the way), there's still a way to record in a more proper way than with an old video camera's microphone.

Depending on your computer's integrated sound card, there's still a possible way to record "properly" without too much latency, therefore giving an ok playback.

;) Anyways, I'm not here to argue, I know you guys know your stuff.
